The
Gorkha Ayurved Company is a joint venture between
Nepalese entrepreneurs and French NGO CIDR (French
acronym for International Center of Development and
Research), and German entrepreneurs. Production unit
based at Gorkha, It was established in 1984 AD, with
the aim of developing Nepal's tremendous potential.
The Company has been working at Gorkha District of
Nepal to strengthen the economic condition of the
remote villages involving local communities in collection,
cultivation and processing of Ayurveda Health products.
Gorkha Ayurved is registered as Private Limited, company
in accordance to Nepal Company Act under the department
of industry with the limited liabilities. The company
has established its administrative and liaison office
at Chhetrapati, Kathmandu in the form of a regular
channel for the distribution of its entire products
including medicines and herbal tea in the local, national
as well as international markets and also for the
maintenance of its updated accounting processes.
GORKHA
AYURVED COMPANY (P) LTD. is the first established
and leading private Ayurvedic medicine manufacturer
and supplier in Nepal. The company receives its name
from the Gorkha distict of Nepal, which has the historical
significance of the being the home district of the
late King Prithvi Narayan Shah, first king and unifier
of the Kingdom of Nepal.
The
company was established with in 1984 under the company
act of HMG (His Magesty's Government) of Nepal, and
is a joint venture between Nepalese and German entrepreneurs
and the French NGO Center for International Development
and Research (CIDR). In the beginning, French researchers
proved that their assistance with the construction
of the company could in turn help community groups
in low-income small villages to generate income. As
the company began to be more successful following
its formation, the Gorkha began to increase the processing
of Ayurvedic medicines. These consumer products are
produced in the company's production unit in Prithvi
Narayan metropolitan city ward no. 3 in Haramtari,
Gorkha. Continuing to today, the company is maintaining
the quality of its products and focusing on the GMP
criteria of the World Health Organization. In order
to increase the production of capacity to a large
extent, the company management is working on plans
to install a production unit in Mahador VDC, ward
no. 7, Thankot, Kathmandu. At this site, an herbal
garden will be installed, as well as production area
and offices to help build the company in the years
to come.
Currently,
the company's product line is running full-swing the
home market and has current overseas links to Germany,
Sweden, Italy, and France. The company further aims
to enhance its business with other western countries
as well.
Apart
from production, the company is also very active in
social activities of its employees. The company aims
to help generate income for poor, rural communities
through the work of cultivation of medicinal herbs.
This involves developing skills of local workers through
trainings, workshops, etc.
