Introduction:
Amati
syrup contains classically recommended medicinal plants
used in Ayurveda, which have been found effective
against amoebic dysentery. The efficacy of the ingredients
(alkaloid, conessine) contained in Amati have been
established by the British Pharmaceutical codex and
reconfirmed by clinical trial done in Teku hospital,
Kathmandu against Entamoeba histolytica infestation.
The trail has shown Amati to be 97.5%
successful to eradicate both cyst and trophozoites
from forming. An additional blind trail has also been
conducted in same hospital in comparison with allopathic
drug Metronodazole. Amati was found to be as effective
as metronidazole but with less side effects.
Action : Holarrhena antidysenterica is anti- amoebic and anti-diarrhoea.
Cuminum cyminum, Pipinella anisum, Zingiber oficinale
are digestive. Cyperus rotundus is astringent and
anthelmintic. Aegle marmelos is anti-bacterial and
anti-diarrheal. Mesua ferra is digestive, stomachic
and haemostatic.
Indication
:
It is indicated in amoebiasis
caused by Entamoeba histolytica dysentery and general
diarrhoea.
Adverse
effect : It has negligible toxic effects. In some
cases, it may cause dryness of mouth and nausea. These
side effects subside after withdrawing the drug.
Doses
& administration : Adult Two teaspoonful,
to be taken orally on empty stomach for 7 days or
as directed by physician.
Precaution
: Fried, fatty, oily and sour food should be avoided.
Presentation : Bottle
of 110 ml.
